Welcome back, Pal...
Pal Singh, Designer, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Hey guys, I am back actively on my all time favorite DT&G site after Eight years.
Pal Singh is a professional print designer, and contributes to our "Digital Photography" theme.
Pal writes:
I have been really busy in my work. For me a camera is another medium of design and that is why I could not resist my self to it. I do a lot of sketching and painting. For sketching it is fine, however, for painting, I feel it is not possible to carry canvas and colors every time and everywhere. Moreover some scenes are there in front of you for just few seconds. That is where this magic device came to practice.
Starting with a very low range I now have a medium range Canon digital SLR. In fact, in my opinion tool is secondary main is how smartly you use it and what results you produce. I have been going around with my camera and taking some landscapes, abstracts and shots of family and friends. I love doing experiments. Sometimes with the self-timer, shutter speed, light adsorption, motion and taking a wide landscape in many shots and then combining them in photoshop to have a pleasing landscape picture of the rising Sun in the UAE. And one more thing --
I must mention that all the images are straight from the camera and none have been touched or modified in any image manipulation software.
Waterworld:
They say it once it was all water on this planet then life came into existence. In this picture you see as if water has engulfed the colorful buildings. One evening I was on my way back home in my car when I caught this abstract picture in my camera. I pressed the shutter button half way and moved the camera to get this wave effect of the lights of vehivles coming from the opposite side of the road.
Blessings
Oh my lord bless me with the eternal light so that I can enlighten my dark soul. I took this picture on a trip to Oman. On our way we stayed on this beautiful island. And I could not stop myself clicking this beautiful landscape that also fit into my subject lines. I set the shutter speed to take the full details of the mysterious light and wonderful evening sky and to black out the people in the forground.
Determination
This is a breathtaking shot of a part of the city of Gold -- Dubai. Every time I think about the development of this country I praise the determination, farsightedness and planning done by the leaders of the UAE to transform a desert into world famous city that is example for whole world. According to a report printed in a prominent local newspaper Dubai's economy has been ranked the 17th most competitive out of 61 top global economies by a Swiss management institute, ahead of top industrialised countries like Japan, United Kingdom, Germany and France.
Beyond the boundaries
Most of us human beings are constantly living in the dark of ignorance, poverty, cruelty and selfishness. And we are so used to it that even if somebody shows the light we don't want to come out of it. We rather see it as a disturbance. I believe that even if the possibilities are very narrow but still with our continuous efforts we can attract such people and bring them in the main stream. Taking this picture I wanted to use the only available source of light that is the window of the plane. Challenge was to take the maximum of light by slowing the shutter speed and to keep the hand steady for that long time. I exactly knew how much light I need and where.
Layers of Life
I am very much impressed by the landscapes of Ajman, one of the Emirates (States) of UAE and this is one of those beautiful landscapes that I could capture in my camera.
New Buds
This kid is a symbol of the new generation. Having so much of energy they keep a sharp eye on everything happening around them and always eager to respond to those activities. It was a real challenge to take a photo of Tia in natural pose without even letting her know that somebody is taking her photo. She is so active that many times she just grabbed the lens and pulled it down when I was on her eye level. She made me running everywhere before rewarding me with this cute photo.
